CÓSMICO 8th Encounter - Thursday Under The Stars

Humanity has looked to the heavens since the beginning of its existence. Nature is governed by the sky, the planetary movements, the circling of the sun, the position of the moon. We have studied stars, galaxies and nebulae, and we have reached the apparent limit of the universe with the help of extraordinary telescopes and brilliant minds that have been able to translate it into numbers and images. We have already seen a black hole, we think we know what the universe was like just after its formation in the Big Bang, and a few years ago gravitational waves were discovered.

Art has played a special and important role in this journey and today, when technologies provide us with data to be analyzed and visualized, artists and astronomers are often the same person. What are the tools, methods and imaginaries that these disciplines share?

Thursdays Under the Stars

Weekly science outreach activity open to all audiences, which takes place at the National Astronomical Observatory of the Faculty of Sciences of the National University of Colombia. Every Thursday, participants enjoy a lecture on a topic of astronomy and space sciences, and an astronomical observation session with telescopes, in an environment that promotes fascination for the knowledge of our universe.
