CREATION - ART AND SCIENCE ENCOUNTERS
At the end of 2016, the Creation - Art and Science Encounters emerged, organized by the Mutante laboratory in Bogota. A space to share and learn about ideas, questions, projects and creative processes that emerge locally in the dialogue between these areas of knowledge and, more importantly, a space to generate connections between creatives interested in these topics. Five meetings, in the collective workshop of Mutante and in different places in the city that opened their doors to us: Plataforma Bogotá, LAB1 and the Cinemateca de Bogotá, gave way to the recognition of a growing community of artists, scientists, designers, researchers and many others, which would later become a primordial network. In 2018, in collaboration with Creata, the 6th Encounter was held, which for the first time had a thematic context: Biocentric Tension. In 2019, with the addition of a new collaborator: Cuántico, the 7th Encounter was organized: A|CERCA DEL ORIGEN, in which the launching of what until then was something similar to an artistic residency program: Suratómica took place.
From the symbiosis between the emerging network of Creation - Art and Science and Suratómica at the end of 2019, the following meetings were shaped as spaces for dialogue and dissemination around the thematic contexts proposed by the new network, with the support also of new collaborators. The 8th Meeting: COSMICO joined the space Thursdays Under the Stars of the National Observatory and was organized together with the Faculty of Sciences of the National University and the Colombian Network of High Energy Physics CONHEP. The 9th Meeting: Possible Worlds, with the collaboration of researcher Raúl Niño, who proposed the thematic context based on the work Irregular Polytopes by artist Didonet Thomaz. The 10th Meeting opened the way to the context of the Suratomic Network with the same name: Inexistent Frontiers, which was proposed at the beginning of the pandemic and responded to the new logics of digital encounters.
Knowing who we are creating and what ideas we are exploring, meeting to share and open spaces for dialogue from the heterogeneous, as has been proposed in the Encounters of Creation - Art and Science, has been and continues to be an essential part of being able to connect as a network and strengthen us in collaboration.
