At the edge of chaos means, literally, far, far away from equilibrium. This, in contrast to a world focused on the search for equilibrium of all kinds (accounting, financial, commercial, technological and others). It is at the edge of chaos that the most exciting things happen, but also the most delicate and sensitive. There is a science that deals with this space, this threshold. Of all the phenomena far from equilibrium, the most important from many points of view is life, living systems. Life-as-we-know-it, and life-as-it-could-be-possible, a broad threshold that covers from extremophiles and protozoa to human beings and artificial life and intelligence.

Well, Surtómica convenes the third cycle focused on that dimension: the edge of chaos. Science, art, aesthetics, engineering; but also, individual existence, the state of humanity, the life of the biosphere and relations with the entire universe emerge at that threshold. Vertigo embraces us and we can rely on this sensation and devote ourselves to study and creativity far from equilibrium. What results is surprising: we gain in degrees of freedom, in possibilities and in indeterminacy. Yes: the limit is the sky. That is to say, there are no limits.
